Various notes
I am SOO happy that Denny Hamlin got his first win last week!

I'm really happy that Jamie FINALLY got a good finish (two weeks ago)!

I'm thrilled that Carl won one (gotta love those backflips)!

Poor Mikey - no matter what he drives, he can't seem to get a good car.  Biffle and Gordon, too, for that matter.

Endorsed by NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace, and full of Nascar theme songs, country artist Tony Justice Justice released his Gotham debut, Rockin' Rusty in 2003. In the past three years, the album has received heavy rotation on Motor Racing Radio and NASCAR Press, and ESPN licensced the title track for the 2006 NASCAR season. Rockin' Rusty is available in stores everywhere, and online via iTunes, Napster, and Rhapsody.

This weekend in Texas
Kurt Busch wins his Busch Series debut. Unfortunately, I fell asleep toward the end and missed the last third of the race. Incidentally, both times this season when I've missed the end because I fell asleep Kurt Busch has won... hmmm.

The Nextel Cup race was fun to watch. My two faves (Carl and Jamie) got knocked out, as did Biffle who isn't my fave but is someone of whom I've grown rather fond as of late. I'm really starting to dislike Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth, so I'm glad Kasey was able to hold them off. It was clear that Kasey had the better car, and I was glad he kept cool enough to pull off the win.

This weekend in Atlanta
Kind of a boring finish.

And I'm really disappointed I won't get to see today's Cup race. :(

If you can watch it, please keep us updated!

A Rousch rout
Talk about a great stable of drivers! Of course, if most owners got a team of that many drivers together, they could also rule the tracks.

I didn't see the trucks race; I don't get the Speed channel so I only get to see what's on network TV.

The Busch race was fantastic! As a new Greg Biffle devotee, I was really psyched to see him win. His car was simply amazing! And it was nice to see him as a gracious winner.

The Cup race was also nice. I'm SO happy that Carl placed so well. I guess we'll see him in Fontana's Victory Lane in 2008, eh? He went from 43d to 21st in the standings. I feel awful for him that he wiped out in Daytona. But I also know he has the talent, car, and crew to be competitive.

I know most people are picking either Bowyer or Denny Hamlin for Rookie of the Year, but I'm going to go with Reed. He's hella talented and he did SO well in the Busch races last season. Plus, how can you root for a 20-year-old kid whose high school principal used to yell at him for speeding through the school's parking lot? lol

On a more serious note: It's a damn shame about Shane Hmiel. What a talented kid. While I am happy that NASCAR takes such a serious stand on drugs and alcohol, it's a shame that Hmiel is now banned for life. I wonder if this punishment will serve as a disincentive to continuing to seek treatment; I hope not.

Carl Edwards
Mom and I were talking about Carl Edwards last night and she said she saw an interview with him. He was talking about something that happened several weeks ago when he was out running errands. "I noticed these people kept staring at me, and I was wondering what was wrong with me," like maybe the pants were unzipped or something. Then he realized, "Oh! They recognize me; I'm a NASCAR driver!"

I love that story because it really demonstrates his "I'm just a regular guy who's out there having fun driving" attitude.

Daytona, baby!
So, here's to my NASCAR community. It would be nice if other people joined, but if I'm the only person that posts, that's fine, too. I basically wanted a space to post without boring the bejeezus out of my friends who have absolutely NO interest in NASCAR.

I am SO psyched that Jamie (#26 now, and it's SOOO weird to see the Texaco Havoline car and have to remind myself that it's now Casey Mears' car) had such a great race this week (well, until he crashed, anyway). Plus, he gave me even more ammunition to use in my "I hate Kurt Busch" rants. lol

I feel bad for Carl, too. But he's such a good guy to take the blame for wrecking Petty, especially since Petty didn't see Carl as the one at fault. Carl's such a classy guy.

My two Missouri boys, Jamie and Carl. (Yes, I know the Schraders are a Missouri family, too.)

Tony Stewart continues to wear on my nerves. I have no idea what he was thinking about Sunday, but he sure seemed to change his stance on the "drivers are driving too aggressively" issue, eh?
